High-Performance Network Analysis System

Lytix's solution to navigating financial interconnections is based on many years of applied R&D and a highly-innovative approach to financial network analysis. Our technology incorporates several components, including:

. Graph engine. At the heart of Lytix’s solution is Nahanni, a fast, flexible storage and analysis technology for network analysis. Named after a spectacular river in northern Canada, Nahanni directly attacks the issue of representing, managing and storing complex, data-rich network structures to make it feasible to implement sophisticated analytical tools. Nahanni overcomes the limitations that arise from the straight use of relational databases for advanced network analysis: speed and flexibility. Nahanni is designed to handle extremely large networks and provides mechanisms for querying, partitioning and structuring these networks.

. Financial ontology. Lytix’s graph engine is tightly coupled with a financial ontology – a “concept framework” that models financial interaction as a network of interrelationships between financial players. Lytix’s financial ontology is based on nodes, which mainly represent companies, securities and people, and edges, which represent events and relationships such as ownership stakes, management roles and transactions. Nodes and edges combine to create rich financial models – including such components as “ABC Mining Inc. owns 51% of XYZ Distribution LLC” or “John Smith is Chief Executive Officer of First Investments Limited”. Lytix’s ontology enables advanced analytics, and can be extended and customized.

. Data integration. In order to provide a holistic perspective, Lytix’s solution integrates data in diverse formats from multiple sources – public, private or licensed. Structured data from feeds and databases can be input in a highly automated manner; data that is semi-structured (e.g. tables in spreadsheets) and unstructured (e.g. text from documents) can be imported using Lytix’s web-based user interface. Lytix’s solution also includes a reconciliation process that provides a critical element in the data cleaning process; this process can be fully automated or performed with software assistance, as required.

. Applications. Lytix is building applications that address specific financial industry problems, such as understanding corporate structures when performing investment analysis, mapping counterparty exposure, and monitoring systemic risk. Applications contain pre-integrated data sets, such as company structures or management teams and directorships; integration capabilities allow users used to enhance this information by incorporating additional data. Applications incorporate task-specific analytics, allow users to move from the general network structure to detailed specifics, and can be delivered over the web or via its API.
